The fixes you point to with church and local participation really start with a moral people. We hope we can go in a direction for child care and other support that will work and move more into productive lives. We had a lady in our community that had a great work ethic, and was willing to keep our children for a very reasonable sum. Her Christain character and work ethic supported her family and ours. Child care should never be supported by government to the point of making it a big business. The shutdown started people screaming about not funding child care. My wife and I did a quick calculation for all the government child care support we received. It came to a total of $0.00.

Al, We had the same experience. The government never helped with childcare, yet we survived. And, yes, church and local participation begin with a moral people. I'm encouraged that many of the young men are back to seeking to bring God into their lives. Maybe this is the start of the next enlightenment! We can hope!

The problem was created by the government. The government created this problem while simultaneously funding foreign governments. Then they show the world how they refuse to feed the very people that they are supposedly working for. The USA can no longer afford to service its constituents, and they are doing it in a very public way. This is no accident.

Thanks for the note.

Let's take this one piece at a time. Yes, the problem was created by the government over the course of at least 90 years, from FDR on. What the government has done is create a voting bloc by means of handouts. You can't tell me that everyone on SNAP needs it to stay alive. Take a look at what's required to get on SNAP, and then tell me all the customers will starve without it. What needs done is to insure those who need the help get it, and those who scam the system pay for it. You are correct, the US can no longer afford to service it's constituents. I maintain there are way too many "constituents".
