An incumbent comes to the election with a five to ten point advantage. That is why they get elected forever. We need term limits in Arkansas. The term limits we used to have were destroyed by a legislator that is now in prison for taking bribes and other corruption.

I too advocate for term limits, preferably no more than 4 years total. We do not need professional politicians, even in a part-time state. Thanks for the note, Al.

I especially agree with you on limiting the power and influence of lobbyists. But will the lobbyists ever allow us to limit their influence? How can we get past them? It almost seems hopeless. Almost.

I mention in the article, make them report EVERY contact, whether it's them or their staff to the elected or their staff. That puts every meeting, phone call, "social" gathering, all of it on the record.

Closely define allowable transactions (gifts, donations, etc.) and require that lobbyists report ALL, not just those of a certain size.

Lobbyists are not regular citizens, affecting political positions is their business, and as a special case they should be held to special requirements.

Hope this helps.
